- His basslines and the energy that is all up in ‘em has fueled the music that we bump today.
Happy birthday to living legend Bootsy Collins! Let me tell y’all something ‘bout Mr. Collins…
His basslines and the energy that is all up in ‘em has fueled the music that we bump today. He has created some of the most recognizable fashion moments and iconic basslines in funk music history. I guarantee y’all of that fact. He is arguably – or not arguably cause it is pretty much common knowledge – the most important bassist in the history of funk music. Rising to prominence as a bassist in James Brown‘s band, and later with George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic, Bootsy Collins has been incredibly prolific throughout his career. Did y’all know that he’s also a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, inducted in 1997 with 15 other members of Parliament-Funkadelic? Well, now y’all know.

Here’s a quote from living legend Bootsy Collins’ 2020 interview with the Guardian. Hopefully, it will inspire y’all!
“People are so status-obsessed and they just don’t realize that we are all the same, that this whole Earth is our mothership and we’re all on board,” he says softly. “You can laugh if you want to, because I’ve been laughed at before, but none of that means anything to me any more. What means something is that we all get a chance to get heard and that we help each other out. We’re all funky, just not all of us know it.”
So much respect and love to Bootsy Collins today and always! Happy Birthday, sir! Stay funky err’body!
