“It’s Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next to Me” was released from his album Barry White Sings for Someone You Love. The song spent 5 weeks at the top of the R&B singles charts during the fall of 1977, and was also a big hit on the pop charts, peaking at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, and was his 6th and last Top 10 hit. This song was written by songwriting partners Ekundayo Paris and Nelson Pigford. The pair had parted ways but reunited when Paris came up with the musical idea for the tune. He met up with Pigford at his Hollywood residence, where they brainstormed lyrical possibilities. Paris told Billboard: “We both started bouncing ideas, trying to get something uplifting, something positive, something to bring two people together and take it to the ultimate.”.
